Biodiversity

We recognize that protecting and conserving biodiversity, maintaining ecosystem services, and sustainably managing living natural resources are fundamental to sustainable development. We have been guided by the Convention on Biological Diversity, which defines biodiversity as “the variability among living organisms from all sources including, inter alia, terrestrial, marine and other aquatic ecosystems and the ecological complexes of which they are a part; this includes diversity within species, between species, and of ecosystems.” As the ecosystem services are the benefits that people, including businesses, derive from ecosystems.

Ecosystem services valued by humans are often underpinned by biodiversity. Impacts on biodiversity can therefore often adversely affect the delivery of ecosystem services. We addresses for a sustainably manage and mitigate impacts on biodiversity and ecosystem services throughout the project’s life cycle.

Our objectives

  • To protect and conserve biodiversity.

  • To maintain the benefits from ecosystem services.

  • To promote the sustainable management of living natural resources through the adoption of practices that integrate conservation needs and development priorities.
